2021 Clare Vanderpool Promising Novel Scholarship

APPLICATIONS OPEN JUNE 1ST!

Applications are due Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

In honor of the 2011 Newbery winner and SCBWI Kansas member, Clare Vanderpool, we are offering a scholarship to the fall 2021 KSMO Middle of the Map Conference to be held November 5-7 for a promising middle grade or young adult novel.  Graphic novels and chapter books are considered (text only) as long as you, the writer, identify the content as for an audience older than picture-book age. The scholarship includes conference registration fees.

Due to changing Covid guidelines, it is not yet known if the conference will be held in Overland Park, Kansas or take place virtually. The scholarship is available to SCBWI members who are not previously published by a publisher on the PAL list in this format (middle grade or young adult novel) and who live in Kansas or Missouri.

A committee of authors will select the winner.  SCBWI Kansas/Missouri will notify the 2021 winner in July. Please note: Scholarship recipients are not eligible for future scholarships. Further, while authors may apply for all scholarship and mentorship opportunities, if the same person wins more than one contest, the winner will be asked to select their top choice ONLY.
