About the Mentor: Brad Sneed

Kansas/Missouri SCBWI is pleased to announce that our 2022 Illustration Mentor is the very talented Brad Sneed.  Brad Sneed grew up near Newton, Kansas. He attended Kansas University where he studied Illustration and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Brad’s illustrations have appeared in newspapers and magazines, product packaging, and in books. His books have earned honors from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the Society of Illustrators, the National Council of Social Studies, the International Reading Association – Children’s Book Council, American Bookseller, Junior Library Guild, and appeared on state book award lists. His latest title, Because I’m New was published in spring, 2021. A self-described “Bird Nerd,” Brad enjoys observing, identifying, and painting birds. To date, he has illustrated more than 80 species –many that have stopped by his Prairie Village, Kansas backyard. You may learn more about Brad’s work by visiting his website, bradsneed.com. Cost: Free to SCBWI Kansas and Missouri members

When: We will begin accepting applications on November 7th. Please do not submit materials until this date. Deadline to apply is December 5th, 2021.

Application Directions:

Email Robin Schuberth at ksmo-ic@scbwi.org with the illustration you would like to work on with Brad Sneed. Please read and follow these guidelines carefully in order for your submission to receive full consideration.

1.  Your illustration file needs to be sized at 72dpi, and saved as a jpg. The file name should include your initials, not your name. (e.g.: AEK_2022mentorship.jpg)

2.   Include a brief bio in your submission email that lists publication credits, professional training, and what you hope to gain from the mentorship.

3.  Submissions should be sent to Robin Schuberth at ksmo-ic@scbwi.org between Nov 7th and Dec 5th, 2021.  Your email subject line should read “2022 Illustration Mentorship Application”.

4.   Failure to follow these guidelines will disqualify your application from consideration.
