SCBWI Kansas/Missouri offers a scholarship to our fall conference each year in honor of the 2011 Newbery winner and SCBWI Kansas member, Clare Vanderpool. The scholarship includes conference registration, lunch, and a one-on-one consultation with the faculty editor or agent of the recipient’s choice. This scholarship DOES NOT include an intensive session. However, the winner will have early access to register for an intensive (at their expense) if they so decide.
The scholarship is available to SCBWI members (published or pre-published) who live in Kansas or Missouri. The 2019 scholarship is open to writers of novels ONLY. Graphic novels and chapter books are considered (text only) as long as you, the writer, identify the content as for an audience older than picture-book age. The deadline for applications is Sunday, June 30, 2019.
A committee of authors will select the winner. SCBWI Kansas/Missouri will notify the 2019 winner in August before registration opens for the conference. Please note: Scholarship recipients are not eligible for future scholarships. Further, while authors may apply for all scholarship and mentorship opportunities, if the same person wins more than one contest, the winner will be asked to select their top choice ONLY.
This year’s conference will be Nov. 1-3 in Overland Park.
