Webinar Description:
UNSTUCK IN THE MIDDLE – This workshop will explore strategies to help keep promising early chapters from melting into a mushy middle. Topics include: vetting your premise to make sure it’s sound and can carry a story filled with escalating stakes and complications; developing fully formed characters whose backstories, desires, and motivations are powerful enough to support a compelling narrative; deepening and expanding conflict so that it’s capable of driving a novel; making certain the story operates at varying dramatic temperatures to ensure a vivid emotional experience for the reader; and more!

Critiques are SOLD OUT!
Ten zoom critiques total for picture books (entire manuscript) or novels (ten pages + synopsis up to 300 words), for any audience, are available in conjunction with this webinar, which will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Critiques are $50, last ten minutes on Zoom, and will included a completed SCBWI Manuscript Gold Form. If you would like to purchase a critique with the webinar, please choose the ticket labeled “Member Webinar + Critique” when you register (for a total of $60- webinar + critique). If that ticket is unavailable, it means the critiques have sold out.
Email critique manuscripts to Nicki Jacobsmeyer at ksmo-ara@scbwi.org with the subject line: CRITIQUE FOR LORIN OBERWEGER. Manuscripts will be due ASAP. Please contact Nicki Jacobsmeyer at ksmo-ara@scbwi.org for submission information.
The critiques will be held on Monday, October 25th, starting at 7:00 pm CST. You will be contacted with your specific critique zoom once you’re registered and have paid in full. *Critiques will ONLY be held on 10/25/21. If you are not able to make this date and time, please do not register for a critique.
LORIN OBERWEGER is a highly sought-after independent book editor, ghostwriter, and award-winning author with more than twenty-five years of experience in publishing. In addition to the workshops produced by her company, Free Expressions, Lorin is a popular instructor at writing conferences around the country. She also has eight traditionally published books (five fiction, three nonfiction), including BOOMERANG, REBOUND, and BOUNCE, cowritten with Veronica Rossi under the name Noelle August. Her work has received glowing reviews from the New York Times, USA Today, Kirkus Reviews, and others. Most recently, she co-authored THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK with Chris Anderson, director of the renowned TED organization.
